Pacific Dream

"Pacific Dream"

Charles sent us this letter:

In February 2001 my uncle passed away and I was appointed the personal representative of his estate. While attending to the business at hand, I was unable to spend much time working on kaleidoscopes. So, in his honor, I decided to focus all my attention on creating a truly fine kaleidoscope. Thus, “Pacific Dream” was born.

All around, this is the best kaleidoscope I have ever built, and the focus on all the details shows it. The exterior, as a sculpture, stands alone. The optics are superior, and the imagery is incomparable to any other, even, I feel, surpassing the finest of the finest. You will be amazed by the smooth operation of the turning mechanism for the object case. And, of course, there is nothing more engaging for a kaleidoscope than the truly classical dry cell and the sounds it makes as the handmade glasswork tumbles and the images change.

Description of "Pacific Dream":

  • The exterior is multidimensional slumped glass with a rainbow of colors trimming the edges.
  • 13" tall, 18" long
  • The object case is 4.5" in diameter and is bearing-operated for extremely smooth action.
  • Features a 2-mirror system producing a 10-point image. Delicate lampworked glass in the dry object case creates very intricate images. Careful selection of all the glass produces highly random patterns, like the image above.
  • Limited edition of five, priced at $6,800 each, is now sold out.

We have only one sneak preview of some of Charles' current developments, as his work with the Brewster Kaleidoscope Society keeps him very busy. This image was received on December 17, 2006:
