Boats was chosen by Games as one of the 100 best new games for the year 2004 and as the runner-up in the Puzzle category. Here's Robin King's write-up from their December 2003 "Buyer's Guide to Games":

Around here, we just can't get enough colorful, beautiful, geometry-inspired puzzles, and Kadon cleverly continues to cater to our craving.This time, our ship has come in, sailing on a sizeable sea of puzzles, and towing along a few games (of the dominoes and connect-the-sides genres). The 36 boat pieces look like dominoes with clipped corners, and a pair of colors instead of dots. When you fit them together, be sure to match the colors of adjacent edges. A joy to play and display, this set will be appreciated by the fleet of mind. — RHK
