Kadon established a special annual award to be presented to the individual or organization that created the best new pentomino or polyomino idea of the year. Each award is a unique custom design.

For the year 2009, the award went uncontestably to Kenneth Blackledge for his stunning design of a complete alphabet formed by the 21 Poly-5 pieces. Each letter fits within an 11x11 square with 32 spaces ingeniously placed to create its profile.

The award display was designed by Kate Jones and custom-made by Thomas Atkinson with the Kadon laser. The pieces are removable and playable.

A classic certificate accompanied the award.
